Nordic Skating

Cold and no snow. No Problem! Try nordic skates. These skates work very well and the ice does not have to be perfectly smooth. The long blades make the skates very fast and smooth out the ride on rough ice. The best part is being able to use the skates with your cross-country ski boots (skate-style boots). The binding on the skate is the same as a ski binding. Ski with or without poles and be creative with a workout! Use roller ski poles with the hardened tips as regular ski poles are not suited for ice. The photo above is from Black Moshannon State Park late December 2008. Check out the photo link below for great late afternoon ice scenes from Black Moshannon. Also, go to Nordic Skater for information, advice, and to purchase a pair.
